My name is Rich. I have found a great amount of passion in the pursuit of knowlege. Culture fascinates me, especially cultural differences. In another life, I might make an excellent anthropologist.

I have a significant other, with whom I've been with for 10.5 years. She has a ring, but we're not too quick to jump on the alter bandwagon, since 5 of the 6 weddings we've been to as a couple no longer exist. Both of our parents are divorced (mine several times). We share our lives with four animals, which serve to fulfill a family dynamic that is absent without our own offspring... at least for now.

Our home is in Pittsburgh, PA, where I was born. We live in a house in the Greenfield neighborhood. We don't always get what we want, but we find that we get what we need and hope for a little more.

We are both recovering nicotine addicts. We have been sober since our 10 year anniversary, July 14, 2009.

My current short-term project is getting my life updated in this blog. Yes there is a long-term project: finishing school, which I began while under the influence of pain killers resulting from having had surgery on my finger, which broke due to our habit termination. I am reading the new Dan Brown book with a little less enthusiasm I had than the author's previous books.

At present, it is winter and there is a little less than two feet of a total three feet of snow that the area received since the beginning of February 2010. It is becoming difficult to manage in such tight quarters, but the forecast calls for temps to climb above freezing, so hopefully the great thaw can begin.

Part of this will be a blog post, BTW.

I have many friends, but I don't keep in as close contact as I would like with them. Thanks to Facebook, I have re-connected with a very good friend after nearly twelve years.

Due to a hereditary sleeping disorder, I routinely take melatonin tablets in order to sleep. I am rarely up at this hour (3:00am) since quitting smoking, but I forgot to take my pill. I also take an allergy pill every night because I enjoy breathing now and do not enjoy the constant sneezing that my allergies sadistically deliver.

I've become a fan of baroque music from the mid-late 1700s; I have a particular affinity for Bach and Beethoven. Mozart tends to interfere with what I've come to recognize as a 'studying cadence'.

My life would be incomplete without the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Red Sox to keep my sporting needs met year after year and the Olympics every other year.

This is the first Olympics which has prompted me to purchase related merchandise of: a single XL #87 Team Canada Sidney Crosby tee shirt. I'll be wearing it when the US engages Canada on the ice tomorrow night.
